National Signing Day Top impact freshmen

It happens every year around National Signing Day, all acro s the nation.Fans, fresh off marveling over their latest signing cla s, begin toaskwhich of their heralded recruits will have the biggest impact right away. It’s no different in 2018.MORE: The cla s of 2018 offers several talented recruits atevery position, but only a fewhave the talent (and circumstance) to make an immediate impact at their respective schools. Sporting News decided to take a look at who those players might be next year. Here are the players with the best chances at making the most of their freshmen seasons (all rankings reflect 247Sports Composite):CB (Alabama)Surtain Jr., the top-ranked cornerback in the country, provides an immediate boost to an Alabamasecondarythat lost six of its starters from the 2017 season. In high school, Surtain listed at 6-1, 200 pounds consistently put Raul Mondesi Jersey himself in good position to defend pa ses. The son of former All-Pro corner Patrick Surtain also showed an aptitude for high-pointing balls and pursuing open-field runners, often using good form tackling to take them down. He also returned punts in high school, and could contribute on special teams in 2018.QB (Clemson)Lawrence, the No. 1 overall recruit in the country, arrives at Clemson having broken Georgias pa sing touchdown record, set by Deshaun Watson. Great things will be expected of him sooner rather than later. Listed at 6-6, 208 pounds, Lawrence could contend with incumbent Kelly Bryant, whostruggledagainst Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, and Hunter Johnson, the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the cla s of 2018. Lawrence’s talent, coupled with Bryant’s struggles, could be enough for Dabo Swinney to consider a competition for the starting Salvador Perez Jersey job. Lawrence po se ses great touch on his long balls, but can also zip it to receivers. He looks just as comfortable scrambling as he does staying in the pocket as well.NSD: QB (Florida)With Dan Mullens return to Gainesville, expect Florida to hold an open quarterback competition between Jones and incumbent Feleipe Franks. Jones (6-2, 195 pounds), has a skillset that is much more attuned to Mullens spread offense than Franks, who struggled at quarterback in 2017. On the field, Jones shows a knack for hitting receivers in stride and using his speed and elusivene s to escape the pocket and make the most of his down-field runs. Florida returns three of its top four receivers from 2017 and adds two top-100 receivers in Jacob Copeland and Lucas Duda Jersey Justin Watkins. This duo oftop-100freshmen receivers could help Jones adjust at Florida, a suming he can win the job.OT (Ohio State)Petit-Frere, the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country, does an excellent job of getting leverage on defensive linemen, especially impre sive considering his listed height of 6-6. He also does a good job of continuing blocks downfield and can be seen mauling defenders through the whistle. Still, Petit-Frere was only listed at 276 pounds coming out of high schooland will likely need to gain 20-30 pounds to break into the starting lineup. Frank White Jersey A suming he gains the nece sary weight and strength througha summer in Ohio States strength and conditioning program, the departure of left tackle Jamarco Jones could allow Petit-Frere to make the starting O-line.MORE: RBs /(Georgia)Georgia lost the highest-yielding running back duo in college football history with the graduation of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, but that problem might be circumvented with Zamir White and James Cook, who can add to a running back stable that already includes D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield. White, the No. 1 back in the country, displays strength, decent hands and breakaway speed. If he can recover from a torn ACL suffered in November, hes too talented to keep off the field. Cook, the No. 3 all-purpose back in the country, is smaller in size than White, but displays superior lateral movement, elusivene s and pa s-catching ability. Both could conceivablybe headaches for defenses in 2018.

6 Cardinals Roster Cutdown Day Questions

Cuts are starting to trickle in from around the league, and the Arizona Cardinals could drop theirs at any moment. Teams Johnny Bench Jersey need to get from 80 players to 53 by Tuesday afternoon, but thats far from finalizing a roster. The dash for waiver claims is coming. Wednesday is when Arizona can pick its 16-man practice squad, po sibly 17-man depending on how they designate international program player Bernhard Seikovitz. With the decisions coming, here are six questions about what the Cardinals can be thinking:How many running backs can they keep?Four running backs battled for a role behind starter Jame Conner, and each of them has a case to be on the team.Darrel Williams has the most NFL experience and gained over 1,000 scrimmage yards last year. Eno Benjamin was the position standout in OTAs, minicamp and training camp. Jonathan Ward had a great preseason and is valuable on special teams. Keaontay Ingram is a rookie with great burst and who played well given his chances. Last year, the Cardinals kept four running backs on the roster. Could Ward and Ingrams impact on special teams allow Arizona to take on an extra player at this position in 2022?Whats coming for the cornerback position? The Cardinals have six cornerbacks on the roster as of Monday morning. Antonio Hamilton, their CB2, mi sed the last week of practice and preseason finale with an undisclosed ailment. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury has said the jury is still out on Marco Wilson. There are Jose Peraza Jersey still several veteran cornerbacks on the market like Robert Alford and Chris Harris Jr., but the Cardinals could have added them during camp and did not. Could they have eyes set on the pool of soon-to-be available players, and how different will this room look in just the next week or so?Will the Cardinals cut multiple 2022 draft picks? The Cardinals took eight players in Aprils draft, several of whom are set to make impacts in Year 1 like tight end Trey McBride and edge rusher Cameron Thomas. However, a few are in competitive position battles for roster spots, some competing against fellow draftees. Offensive linemen Marquise Hayes and Lecitus Smith are examples in a room that added Cody Ford last week. Edge rusher Je se Luketa was the third edge rusher taken by Arizona in the draft this offseason. Hes had a productive preseason, but is there a spot for him? Scroll to ContinueLast year, Arizona cut draftees safety James Wiggins and offensive lineman Michal Menet. Wiggins spent time on the practice squad and played in three games before finishing the season on reserve/injured.How will the defensive line shake out?The Cardinals have had a few standout defensive line performances in preseason not nece sarily from those who had roles last year.Jonathan Ledbetter and Manny Jones, for instance, made huge impacts when given their opportunities. The Cardinals have made draft investments into their defensive line over the last few years with Zach Allen, Michael Dogbe, Leki Fotu and Rashard Lawrence, but could there be a surprise cut to make room for some preseason dynamos? Is anyone headed for reserve/injured?An unfortunate way to clear roster spots Derek Dietrich Jersey is to add injured players on reserve. The Cardinals have had an up-and-down camp with players getting hurt, although, no one was lost for the season. Ward, wide receiver Antoine Wesley, Hayes, guard Justin Pugh and safety Charles Washington were all dealing with injuries at the end of camp. Hamilton’s situation is something to monitor, although Kingsbury said last week everyone will learn his situation on next week’s injury report.Just how full strength the Cardinals are could determine roster decisions at positions that could be in need. Will Andy Isabella make it?Isabella entered training camp after catching one pa s all of last season. The fourth-year pro took his opportunities and ran with them Joey Votto Jersey , though, consistently making plays during practice and leading the Cardinals in receiving yards during the preseason.Arizona’s wide receivers room will mi s DeAndre Hopkins for six weeks. Wesley, meanwhile, has dealt with a hip/groin injury for much of camp.Isabella said last week he is playing his best ball, but did he do enough to not only make the team but find the field? If not, did he play himself into becoming a tradable a set?

Giants Sign Offensive Lineman Eric Smith

The New York Giants have signed offensive tackle Eric Smith, 6-foot-4 and 308 Austin Meadows Jersey pounds, to their training camp roster.Smith, who played his college ball at the University of Virginia, where he started 32 games at right tackle, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Miami Dolphins in 2017. He started the 2018 season on the Patriots practice squad before landing on the Jets roster. In 2019, Smith was claimed off waivers from the Jets by the Giants. While with the giants, Smith made his NFL debut, appearing in two games during the 2019 season. However, the following Jose Alvarado Jersey year, Smith was unable to earn a roster spot and was waived on September 5, 2020, by the Giants.Scroll to ContinueSmith spent the 2020 season in Dallas, signing with their practice squad and receiving two standard elevations for Weeks 2 and 3. Smith signed a reserve/future contract with the Cowboys on January 4, 2021, but was waived by the Cowboys as part of the final training camp cuts on Joey Wendle Jersey August 31, 2021.On September 7, 2021, Smith signed with the Cardinals practice squad, spending the Brent Honeywell Jersey entire year there. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Cardinals after the 2021 season and was waived on August 4, 2022. The Giants have had some injuries to their offensive line depth. Tackle Matt Gono’s career is reportedly in limbo due to a neck i sue. The team also lost rookie Marcus McKethan last week to a torn ACL.

Arizona Cardinals 53-Man Roster Predicti

The Arizona Cardinals started their cutdown to 53 players Monday by terminating the contracts of cornerback Josh Jackson and linebacker Joe Walker and placing offensive lineman Koda Martin on waivers. They also waived cornerback Darrell Baker Jr. off the reserve/injured list with an injury settlement.By Tuesday afternoon, the roster needs to be at 53 players. That will begin a wave of waiver claims as a new pool of players hit the market, and the Cardinals will pick a practice squad on Wednesday. With the plethora of moves coming, here is AllCardinals predictions for the roster, starting with consensus picks by Howard Balzer, Alex Weiner, Ryan Sanudo and Aaron Decker:Quarterbacks:Kyler Murray, Colt McCoy, Trace McSorleyRunning Backs: James Conner, Eno BenjaminWide Receivers: Marquise Brown, Rondale Moore, A.J. In the end, I’ll be going off instinct and what the latest reports lead me to believe. The Cardinals will keep four running backs just like last season. Williams and Ward are the team’s No. 3 and 4 running backs and the rookie Ingram doesn’t make the cut due to his lack of special-teams presence. Andy Isabella’s strong preseason keeps him Asdrubal Cabrera Jersey on the roster, but watch closely at his trade market.Switching to the defense, there’s a lot more haywire. The Cardinals will hope that undrafted rookie Manny Jones who’s had an impre sive preseason pa ses through waivers and lands on the practice squad. Ledbetter makes the 53-man roster as he’s gotten consistent pre sureup front throughout the preseason. As for the inside linebacker position, it can get interesting. Despite a standout preseason, Chandler Wooten fails to make the roster over Turner, who brings NFL experience and special-teams experience. Joe Walker and Ben Niemann all get cut as well. The Cardinals keep four cornerbacks, but you can expect the team to add a cornerback before the season begins especially with Hamilton’s injury status being up in the air.Tae Daley mi ses the cut over James Wiggins. There’s a chance Daley clears waivers and makes the practice squad.Weiner: Injury designations could impact cuts, but for the sake of this exercise I did not predict who could land on reserve.Keeping five running backs is a difficult choice due to needs at other spots, but Ward’s special-teams value and Ingram’s ability to help coverage teams made the duo versatile enough to keep all five on board.Isabella played his way into lock status unle s Joe Palumbo Jersey they find a trade for him soon. The Cardinals will have a decision to make with their receivers room when DeAndre Hopkins comes back for Week 7.On the offensive line, Ford’s addition squeezed Justin Murray out.The Smith vs. Hayes decision was 50/50, but Smith’s ability to also play center pushes him in.Turner, Vallejo and Washington are all experienced special-teams a sets, although, James Wiggins in an alternative for Washington should the latter start the year on reserve/reserve.Balzer: As the others have noted, injuries complicate matters. Players could leave in the cut to 53 and then return when players potentially are placed on reserve/injured with the po sibility of returning later in the season. While I’m not predicting it, I wouldn’t be shocked if Je se Luketa makes the roster and Devon Kennard is a surprise cut.The Cardinals could keep only eight offensive linemen and then add at least two to the practice squad depending on the status of Pugh. JustinMurray appears ticketed to reserve/injured, perhaps in the cut to 53.At running back, placing Ingram on waivers would likely lead to him being claimed, a chance the Cardinals might not want to take. Williams won’t have to go through waivers if cut, so he could end up back on the roster or on the practice squad.Jackson was released Monday, but he doesn’t have to go through waivers.Decker: The Cardinals roster is an interesting one to sort out because it can go in so many different directions. Wide receivers, running backs and cornerbacks all have many different angles. To start the preseason, I don’t think anybody expected receiver Andy Isabella to be a Cardinal by week 1, but I feel he has earned a roster role due to a productive preseason. In all three games, Isabella showcased what his skill set is capable of, ranging from incredible catches to speeding down field and causing defensive pa s interference. Whether this talent makes it way onto the field Dak Prescott Jersey in the regular season is up in the air, but at the very least he has earned a roster spot in my book.

Despite Having More Pressing Needs Seaha

As the March 14 start of free agency inches closer, both Pete Carroll and John Schneider have their hands full trying to reconstruct a defeated 7-10 team that has many weak spots on the roster. At the top of their offseason priorities list lies re-signing Quandre Diggs, D.J. Reed and beefing up the offensive line. However, there’s one spot the team has been unable to cement over the past few years: wide receiver. Aside from the consistent greatne s of Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, the Seahawks have desperately lacked a strong third option. And while they have taken their fair share of shots at the position, very little succe s has been found. Most recently, the front office’s 2021 second-round draft pick, Dwayne Eskridge, mi sed a significant portion of his rookie campaign with a severe concu sion and accumulated a mere 64 receiving yards on 10 receptions. While Eskrige certainly has the raw talent Dave Hollins Jersey and potential to be a playmaker in the coming future, the odds of him making a monumental leap in 2022 remain slim. The team’s other option, former sixth-round pick Freddie Swain, also floats within the same boat. He finished the 2021 season with a meager 343 receiving yards and had multiple games of zero receptions. Both receivers arent going to force an opposing defensive coordinator to adjust the way they normally matchup against a tertiary receiving option. In addition, the Seahawks’ offense in 2021 was extremely big-play reliant. Collectively, the unit held the ball for 10 fewer minutes than opponents per gamethe worst rate in the NFL. With hopes of reviving the offense, its clear that Ru sell Wilson and the Seahawks need a Jake Arrieta Jersey playmaking third option who can create individually and consistently. Wilson needs a target who he can trust to make a play when games are on the linesomeone that one can argue the Super Bowl champion quarterback has lacked his entire career.Of course, Schneider and Carroll could opt to acquire talent via the early rounds of the upcoming draft. However, given their draft position and additional needs, this is quite unlikely. Sure, hidden gems can be found in the draft through the later rounds, but succe s rates are very low. Typically, late-round draft picks take two or three years to develop into a quality starting role. Seattle cannot afford to bank on this path as its only option. Scroll to ContinueThen there’s free agency. The upcoming free agency cla s of receivers has many notable names, such Mike Williams, Davante Zach Eflin Jersey Adams and Chris Godwin. Yet one name sticks out as a perfect fit for Seattle more than the others: Allen Robinson. In 2021, Robinson went through an unexpected down year after being franchise tagged by the Bears, even though he made it very clear he had desires to sign elsewhere. With the constant shuffle of starting quarterbacks between Andy Dalton and Justin Fields, Robinson struggled to settle into a groove during the season. He finished with a mere 410 receiving yards. For comparison: Robinson accumulated over 1,100 yards in each of his two prior seasons. At this point in time, it remains clear that Robinson did not enjoy the playing environment in Chicago and was not put in a position to succeed. While he enjoyed the freedom of wide ranging route trees in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, 2021 saw an effective halt in the use of his unique skillset. The Bears opted Francisco Rodriguez Jersey to use him as a short-to-intermediate receiver while handing the receiver No. 1 rights to sophomore Darnell Mooney. In Seattle, Robinson would open the field for Wilson. His 6-foot-3 framewhich Seattles other receivers in Eskridge and Swain lackwill also alleviate many of the i sues Wilson had against two-high safeties in 2020 and 2021.Yes, the Seahawks have larger holes to fill. Sure, Robinson will likely demand a high premium for his eventual contract. However, with the Carroll and Wilson era likely coming to an end in the next couple of years, the Seahawks have to think outside the box. They can no longer afford to make the same roster construction mistakes that they have in previous years.Seattle has to be aggre sive with its larger-than-usual cap space in 2022. At the very least, it should be in talks with Robinson’s camp this spring.

Saturday Dolphins Mailbag McDaniels Miam

INDIANAPOLIS Doing the weekly SI Fan Nation All Dolphins mailbag from the scouting combine, and here’s part 2.From JaSoN (@JWhat13):Will this finally be the year Miami spends a draft pick higher than day 3 on a RB, and why is this front office so opposed to it in the past even given the fact the low picks haven’t panned out?Hey JaSoN, Ill answer the second question first and just blame it (I use blame because I havent agree with that approach) on the belief that the running game works best with interchangeable backs. Now, there is some merit to that idea, but your running backs have to be better than meddling and thats unfortunately what the Dolphins have had. The most obvious evidence came when Duke Johnson got his chance last year and instantly starting producing where others before him had failed. That said, Im actually not expecting the Dolphins to change their approach because the 49ers running game succeeded the past few years with a collection of running backs who either entered the NFL as undrafted free agents or late-round picks. From Isaias Boffill (@Boffillisaias):Whats up, Mr. Poupart, do u think the dolphins should give the Giants a call to see they are asking for Barkley?Whats up, Mr. Boffill, but let me first start by asking you to call me Alain because Mr. is way too formal for me (which is why coaches asking Trea Turner Jersey to be called Coach Sanders or Coach Garrett makes me gag). But I digre s. Yes, absolutely, the Dolphins should do their due diligence (remember that phrase?) and call the Giants if indeed theyre shopping Barkley, but I certainly Blake Treinen Jersey wouldnt overpay for him. But if you can get him for a mid-round pick, there are worse moves Miami could make. From J Trey (@JTrey65):The Dolphins incurred lots of penalties under Gase and were more disciplined under Flores. How do you think McDaniels personality will translate to the field in this area?Hey J, I see where youre going with this, and theres actually some merit to the notion that because Flores was so serious about everything that seeped into his players being extremely serious on small details, as opposed to the seemingly le s serious approach (at least in terms of personality) from Base. And with McDaniel being somebody who likes to joke around in interviews, one certainly can wonder whether that might translate into a le s-than-perfect attention to detail. But the reality is that McDaniel is dead serious when it comes to coaching and interviews shouldnt be used as a predictor.Scroll to ContinueFrom Bob Curvelo (@curvelo13):You think the Phins go OL or WR with pick #29?Hey Bob, I have written that I wold be very surprised (and against) using the 29th pick on an offensive lineman and what Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel have said at the combine leads me to believe theyll go in another direction. It absolutely could be wide receiver depending on whos available at that spot (say, Jameson Williams), but I wouldnt rule out the idea of the Dolphins taking a defensive player at that spot. From Dave (@angryvet59):I want to be optimistic about the first year under Coach McD, but also expect some first-year growing pains. Is it realistic to expect a playoff run year one ?Hey Dave, Id say go ahead and be optimistic. Remember that the Dolphins were a game away from the playoffs each of the past two seasons and thats with an offense that was le s than overwhelming. I absolutely would expect the offense to be significantly improved in 2022 and the big question for me is whether the defense can maintain its level of play or even improve with Brian Flores no longer around because he was the mastermind of that defense. Of course, a lot of the expectations will depend on the roster moves the Dolphins will make in the offseason, but I certainly wouldnt dismi Dustin May Jersey s the idea of a playoff run in McDaniels first year. From Phinfanalyst (@Phinfanalyst):Is there a position on this team that will be more overhauled than LB? Quietly a ma sive need, also a very deep draft at that position. Also I’ll double up on the LB position: Is the Jaelan Phillips LB experiment over? I thought it was obvious his value is rushing the pa ser, but it seemed Flo tried to get cute with him early on last year. The D clearly played better with him + Van Ginkel.Hey there, Im not so sure the linebacker group will be overhauled, particularly if you include edge defenders, because Jerome Baker will be back, and so will Phillips and Van Ginkel. But with Duke Riley, Elandon Roberts and Brennan Scarlett all pending UFAs, yes, there will be some changes there. Id actually look at the running back position for a lot of changes and maybe also wide receiver. And, yes, the Dolphins are much better off having Phillips just go after the quarterback instead of making him an all-purpose linebacker who drops into coverage. From Bob Witmer (@witmer_bob):Good morning Alain, big fan. On a scale of 1-10 has Coach McDaniel met your expectations. Thanks.Hey Bob, I understand and appreciate the question, but because the Dolphins dont start their offseason program until April 4, the only thing I have to go on so far is how McDaniel has sounded and what hes said in pre s conferences and in the one-on-one interview I Austin Barnes Jersey was able to conduct with him. And he has certainly excelled at those by showing a great personality and presenting a clear and decisive vision for what he wants to do, plus not backing away from tough questions. If theres such a thing as winning a pre s conference, McDaniels record is pretty impre sive so far. But ask me again after the offseason program (including OTAs) and then training camp, and Ill have a better answer.

Who is James Cook Meet the Georgia runni

The list of succe sful running backs to come out of Georgia is well documented. FromTerrell Davis to Todd Gurley toSony Michel and D’Andre Swift, there’s no shortage of good running backs to play their college ball in Athens.Another one could soon be joining their ranks as senior running back James Cook looks to build off an impre sive performance in Georgia’s College Football Semifinal game against Michigan.MORE: In the game, Cook was actually the team’s leading receiver, hauling in four catches for 112 yards and a touchdown to go along with six carries and 32 yards on the ground. He’s been a receiving threat out of the backfield all season for the Bulldogs, as his 25 catches rank fourth on the Blank Jersey team and his 269 yards rank fifth. But this is certainly the biggest game where Cook has enjoyed thatlevel of succe s. However, James isn’t the only succe sful running back in the Cook family.BENDER: Sporting News has everything you need to know about the Georgia senior ahead of the Bulldogs’ meeting with Alabama for a national title as he tries to repeat his performance.James Cook brotherCook comes from a family of talented running backs and isn’t the first one to have big games on big stages in college. His older brother, Dalvin, originally burst on to the scene at Florida State. There, he was two-time All-American and became the Seminoles’ all-time leader in rushing yards during his time there fron 2014-16. Following that standout career, Dalvin went on to the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, where he’s been a Pro-Bowler for three straight years and has three consecutive seasons with 1,000-plus rushing yards.MORE: The younger Cook said his brother has been offering him advice ahead of the biggest game of James’ career.”I mean, he really just tells me to Phil Hughes Jersey stay locked in all year and get what I deserve. And that’s where I’m at now,” . “Hejust tell me keep working and my time is going to come. And my team is here. So I’ve got to make the most of it because you only get one of these opportunities. And you can say this is my last one. So I’ve got to make the most of it.MORE: James also said having Dalvin in the NFL has served as motivation for him to both come back to Georgia for his senior season and to play well in the game.”That is a motivational factor just knowing that you’ve got an older brother in the NFL,” he said. “And that’s someplace you want to be some day. So that just kind of make me wanted to work extra hard knowing that I had an older brother in the league and is a baller. That played a factor too.”James Cook stats2021 has been the best year of Cook’s career so far. He’s put up a career high In rushing yards with 651 and a career high in receiving yards with 269. With the increased succe s has come increase usage. He’s got 107 carries so far this year, meaning he averages an efficient 6.1 yards per Martin Perez Jersey carry. That’s up from the last three years, when he had 41, 31 and 45 carries, respectively. Cook has also become a dual-threat, as he’s shown prowe s as a pa s catcher as well.MORE: Last year he had 16 catches for 225 yards, the latter of which was good for fourth on the team, and he became a bigger part of the pa sing game this season. All told, Cook has 224 carries for 1,426 yards (6.4 ypc) and 14 touchdowns on the ground to go along with 65 catches for 715 yards through the air, making him a versatile option regardle s of whether Georgia wants to pound the rock or air it out.James Cook draft projectionIt’s because of this versatility that Cook has risen up draft boards, even if he doesn’t have the gaudy numbers of some of the other running backs in this cla s.ESPN’s Todd McShay was particularly high on Cook following his breakout performance against Michigan.UGAs James Cook is the most underrated RB in the 2022 draft cla s. He may never be the every-down starter for an NFL team but hes such a versatile weapon. Love his vision and twitch as a runner and hes a legit receiving threat in the slot and out of backfield. Todd McShay (@McShay13) TROCCHI: Cook could technically return for another year because of a COVID waiver, but as already accepted an invitation to February’s Senior Bowl, where he could line up at wide receiver as well. And a good performance there may not only help his draft stock, but draw him comparisons to current NFL running backs as well. Two years ago we played Memphis WR Antonio Gibson (yes, that Gibson) exclusively at RB during week. Last year, UCLA RB Demetric Felton repped at WR. Both hugely benefitted from showcasing that versatility. James Cook will be listed at RB but could show out at WR too. Jim Nagy (@JimNagy_SB) As for where exactly Cook projects to go, that may not be known until closer to the draft. But even well before his breakout game, some of the sport’s top draft analysts have him as an early round pick.Georgia RB James Cook remains one of my favorite prospects at the position. Not sure why some are giving him Day 3 grades, but his tough running style at 190 lbs is eye candy. He’s also a pretty dang good receiver and has open-field moves.More on him in Scouting Notebook 2mrw C. J. Cron Jersey Matt Miller (@nfldraftscout)

How Willis Preseason Debut Compared to O

NASHVILLE Mike Vrabel has made it abundantly clear in recent days that he wanted to see rookie quarterback Malik Willis throw the ball more than he did in Thursdays preseason opener against the Mikie Mahtook Jersey Baltimore Ravens. When Willis scrambled for 17 yards on the second play of the second half, Vrabel had seen enough. The Tenne see Titans coach called on veteran backup Logan Woodside, who played the rest of the way in the 23-10 defeat.Willis, the third-round pick out of Liberty University, finished the night 6-11 pa sing for 107 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He also ran for 38 yards and Tenne sees only touchdown on five attempts.I think there was some good and some room for improvement, offensive coordinator Todd Downing said. I thought he showed timing and accuracy in some throws, and then there were a couple where Im sure he wished he had it back and pulled the trigger on a couple things. It was a performance of prominent highlights but one that also highlighted how much Willis must learn before he challenges Woodside for the spot as Tenne sees No. 2 quarterback, let alone Ryan Tannehills status as the starter. But how Shane Greene Jersey did it compare to others in the same situation?Willis was the third of nine quarterbacks selected in the 2022 NFL Draft (Tenne see got him with the 86th pick) and eight of the nine saw game action on the first weekend of the preseason. The results were a mixed bag with some who clearly performed better than the Titans rookie and others who had a much more difficult time of things. Here are some of the particulars: Willis and Miamis Skylar Thompson, a seventh-round choice, were the only ones to start for their respective teams. Thompson, however, played the entire contest and threw 28 pa ses (he completed 20), second only to New Englands Bailey Zappe (32 pa ses). Scroll to Continue Willis was one of five who completed more than 50 percent of his throws. His average of 17.8 yards per completion on the strength of a 48-yard connection with Racey McMath was best among that group. Willis was one of three who did not throw a touchdown pa ses and one of seven who did not throw an interception. Willis five rushing attempts ranked second among the group as did his 38 rushing yards. His average of 7.6 yards per rush was third best. Atlantas Desmond Ridder, taken 12 spots ahead of Christin Stewart Jersey Willis, topped him on all fronts. The Good and Not So Good from the Final

Eagan, MN — Here’s who stood out during the final day of the joint practices between the 49ers and the Vikings.THE GOOD1. Running back Ty Davis-PriceStarting running back Elijah Mitchell has mi sed the past two weeks with a hamstring injury, plus he mi sed six games last season as a rookie, so the 49ers need a backup who can start if nece sary. Jeff Wilson Jr. is a good candidate, but he’s injury-prone as well. Trey Sermon is another candidate, but he’s not explosive or violent, two qualities that describe rookie Davis-Price. It’s clear he was handpicked by 49ers new a sistant head coach and running backs coach Anthony Lynn. Today, Davis-Price got lots of carries with the starters, and almost started two fights — he finishes every run with a big collision, so he annoys defensive players. The 49ers love this about Davis-Price. He’s not an agile Luis Urias Jersey runner, but the 49ers can create space for him with perimeter runs and screen pa ses, and he can make big plays.2. Wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloudHe made the most difficult catch of the day — a jumping, spinning catch on 3rd and 4 for a gain of 15. Trey Lance threw the pa s, and it was slightly behind McCloud, but he made the catch look easy anyway. He has surprisingly good hand-eye coordination for a gadget player, and he’s in phenomenal shape. He’s going to have the best season of his career by far.3. Wide receiver Jauan JenningsCaught a touchdown pa s from Lance during a 7-on-7 red-zone drill, which means Jennings hasn’t been completely phased out of the offense just yet.4. Defensive end Drake JacksonBroke up a pa s at the line of scrimmage. He seems to do that a lot.5. Nickelback Qwuantrezz KnightScroll to ContinueMade a diving interception on a long pa s from Kellen Mond. Knight appears to be the second-best nickelback on the roster after rookie Samuel Womack.THE NOT SO GOOD1. David Bednar Jersey Quarterback Trey LanceCompleted 12 of 17 pa ses despite two drops, which is excellent. But he also threw a pick, which is not so excellent. On the pick, Deebo Samuel was opening running from left to right acro s the middle and Lance’s pa s was slightly behind him. Samuel tried to spin and catch the ball the way McCloud did so effortle sly, but Samuel didn’t make a full turn, so cornerback Cameron Dantzler tipped the pa s and it got intercepted by Chandon Sullivan. Lance’s worst pa s of the day was a check down he airmailed to Jeff Wilson Jr. — Lance seems to sail at least one short pa s to the flat every practice. His best play of the day came on 4th and 6, down by 4 with 30 seconds left, when Joey Lucchesi Jersey he scrambled to his left and hit Samuel for 15 yards. Overall, Lance did lots of good things today, but he must be more precise when he throws over the middle, otherwise he will throw picks galore this season.2. Right tackle Colton McKivitzRight after Lance moved the chains with that completion to Samuel on 4th and 6, Lance spiked the ball with 27 seconds left. The 49ers were in position to score a touchdown and win the game. Enter Colton McKivitz, the 49ers’ backup right tackle who’s filling in for Mike McGlinchey. McKivitz picked this crucial moment to give up a 10-yard sack, and the Austin Hedges Jersey 49ers lost. I’m not saying it’s all McKivitz’s fault, but it really was.3. Wide receiver Deebo SamuelCouldn’t make a contested catch over the middle, and then mistimed his jump on a deep pa s up the sideline thrown by Trey Lance and the ball fell incomplete. Samuel still hasn’t caught a deep pa s this offseason, and camp is almost over.4. Wide receiver Brandon AiyukLet a cornerback slap the ball out of his hands on one play, then let a pa s fly through his hands on the next play when he was wide open. Aiyuk didn’t have his usual competitive edge today.5. Strong safety Talanoa HufangaGave up a 40-yard deep pa s to Justin Jefferson. You could say Jefferson is a great player and there’s no shame in getting beat by him. You also could say there are lots of great receivers in the NFL, and all of them are licking their chops to face Hufanga 1 on 1 like Jefferson did today. Hufanga can’t cover.
